• Use good quality packing tape to secure the bottom of the box with a cross shape.

• Make a plan of what you’re going to put in each box and limit the amount of breakables that get placed in it.

• Screw up several sheets of paper and place it inside the box, extending it up the sides of the box as high as your first row of items. Use paper to pack between the layers and wrap all items carefully. Plates are best packed standing upright. • Start with a layer of the heaviest items, each wrapped separately in butcher’s paper. Pack them tightly together so they can’t move around.

• Stop packing when you’re just below the top of the box and finish with another layer of crushed paper. Make sure that all items are packed tightly together and aren’t going to move about when the box is moved, or in transit.

• Close and tape the box with strong packing tape, being sure to mark clearly what the contents are, and in what room it needs to be placed at the other end.

• Take care not to overload your boxes and don’t pack large boxes with books or heavy items as they’ll be really difficult to move.

1. You can save yourself money by packing unbreakable, light items into heavy duty garbage bags.

1. Put small items such as keys, or nuts and bolts (in the case of flat pack items), into a small plastic bag and tape them securely to the relevant item.
